Abstract
The Concept of Futuvvet, and the Notion of Hero in Analytical Psychology: A Comparative Study In the present paper, the common features of the concept of futuvvet and the notion of hero according to Karl Gustav Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, will be compared.
Different individual and social aspects of futuvvet are the same as the stages of hero journey that includes separation, initiation, and return. The stages of reaching the grade of futuvvet in tradition as well as the stages of hero journey for Jung are rooted in the archetypes of collective unconscious that in the current paper, we consider the notion of futuvvet from this perspective; the archetypes whose existence are necessary to pass each stage of this journey. To consider overcoming the inner conflicts in Jung’s hero journey in fact shows a closely relation to attaining the peaks of the idea of humanity in futuvvet style, so that human being aims at reaching the high goal of humanity, namely futuvvet in tradition and heroism in analytical psychology. In this research, we also make a comparison between the symbols to which needs a fata (jawanmard) in eastern societies to initiate to the people of futuvvet and Jung’s symbols in hero travel in western societies. Finally, the superiority of futuvvet in eastern culture compared with hero in the West will be stated and explained.
